Looks like a lovely day for a parade. Woo hoo!

Mardi Gras, traditionally the day before Ash Wednesday; the eve of Lent. Traditional Catholic rite holds that during Lent one must forgo a pleasure of some sort, preferably one that is indulgent, perhaps nearly sinful. Top tens include chocolate, smoking, coffee, alcohol, freebasing (snorting OK), pop....you get the idea. The Catlick tradition hold deprivation up there with guilt and shame--not exclusive to other traditions, but they’re prolly the “branding” of Catlick life familiar to most heretics (followers of other Xtian churches, or--worse yet--those who’ve left the Church) or heathens (persons without any Xtianity).

I’m a respectful heretic: bugger, pinko, but who also knows that the institutional church is not the church. As Sally Field said in the TV movie Sybil: “It’s the people! It’s the people!” And a lot of Catlick and Xtian people seem to be much better at charity, acceptance and love. Quel surprise. It need also be noted much more frequently that faith-based organizations do much of society’s shit work: drug treatment, homeless shelters, women’s service and many others. And run lovely, value-laden boutiques. So until more of us socialists commit to running these sorts of programs we need to work with the Sally Anne and Catholic Charities to ensure their programs are relevant and accessible. Or, make sure they don’t get a penny of public funds until the are.

Pluralism, dontcha know!

Me? I gave Catholicism for lent many years ago. Stoopidly I gave up Gawd too, but Gawd’s back in my life now. In no particular personifed form. Just there. Works for me in a big way. “tis good.

Yesterday was my birfday and it was great. Cards from Mum, Nanny, Tom, and a parcel from Noel & Joce--a porta-spa day! Which I endeavour to implement Sunday afternoon when I come to from the all night dance party. And comcomitant cawfee hangover.

I wonder if Ash Wednesday is actually this week--seems awfully late...

Merry partay to all--fun, wild, raunchy, sexy, hedonistic, and SAFE. Please Partay and Play safely--let’s take care of each other!
