Get off your ass and do something more concrete for queer rights besides this little thing. Like call or write your elected officials, donate $$ to queer organizations, chain yourself to the White House fence.

hehe! Good point! It would be nice if everyone would hit the streets but I just don't expect it anymore. My thoughts though are that things like this while cheezy raise awareness and can encourage those that are doing the hard work by showing them that there's a lot of (silent) support for their efforts.

I'm volunteer at a PIRG (http://www.sfu.ca/~sfpirg) at SFU oh jeepers are we a useless uni in terms of activism. That spirit died with the sit-ins of the 60s or 70s and I hear, the firing of many of the radical professors that supported such movements. About 3$ of a student's semesterly fee goes to the org and they are allowed to come in to request that money back should they not agree with what the org is doing. People actually come in for that 3$. It's pathetic really... (something as positive as the UPass was just narrowly voted in)

I guess I donate to the right (meaning left) causes and parties, and sign the occasional petition, and very occasionally write a letter; but I don't consider myself a political activist. I do think, however, that never deliberately hiding your own sexuality in casual conversation with someone: “Yes, my lover Bill and I went to Hawaii too”, is a very effective way of educating people that WE'RE EVERYWHERE. Hah! Seriously, though, it helps dispel the boogie-man, child-molester, watch-your-bum ignorant misconceptions. If more people knowingly meet gay people, more people will realize that we're ordinary people… Ass-licking, cock-sucking, fudgepacking people… but otherwise, ordinary. And even there: “Yo! You straights out there, get your woman to strap one on, you might dig it!”
