a marvelous, fooked up world
Sep. 9th, 2004 09:05 pmI fairly marvel at technology, most probably things my nieces and nephews view as rather quotidian and unimpressive. As soon as we get the phone that defies the space/time continuum (when I dial here at 6pm, it rings there, in real time, at 6pm), I may stop revisiting the Apple website for new opportunities for commodity fetishism.
Concomitantly, I find the news of the world--elections, terrorism, hurricanes--disturbing. Yet I remain resolute both in terms of optimism and a commitment to endeavour to make the world a wee bit better. Which I think isn’t a terribly tall order and doesn’t require much from me. On the other hand, a couple of my colleagues are getting right up my nose lately. I’m not being nearly as healing, caring and sharing with them.
I’m not much for platitudes. Nevertheless, I need to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem. Which means it can’t be all about me, or me and Max.
Stay tuned . . .
