Adult HIV/AIDS and the Majority World: Putting Principles into Practice

I'm pleased to announce that a special edition of Convergence/Convergencia/Convergence--one of the few trilingual scholarly journals in the world--on HIV/AIDS in the Majority World is now out. I edited this, and includes contributions from Botswana, Swaziland, Nigeria, Viet Nam, and the ex-pat Puerto Rican community of Chicago. It's a terrific range of articles about the different ways adult education principles are used in majority ("developing") world contexts in the global AIDS pandemic.

J, I'll be showing this to a faculty member in the morning, who has also studies AIDS in malawi and Botswana. My guess is that she knows or at least is familiar with the work of Peggy Gabo Ntseane. Her name is Jayati Ghosh. Also, I narrowly missed out on an afternoon with Paolo Freire--ny best friend in Ireland showed up at his apartment in Sao Paolo and they had a marvellous time together. I had failed an exam and had to return to UCD for "repeats." Dammit.

He was apparently a very kewl person, though the degree to which he's deified in adult education circles concerns me (ex-Catlicks tend to loathe Kult of Personality, niha?). But his mix of Marxism, Christian social justice and pragmatics remains pretty compelling.

If Jayati doesn't know Peggy its probably because Peggy was @ UGA in Georgia doing a PhD between 1997 and 2002. I almost took a job managing an HIV/AIDS legal project in Gaborone; I opted for Sydney instead...which I still wonder about--great opportunity. Still I did get me an husband....
