On retail therapy, distance and travel
May. 27th, 2004 04:38 pmWell I’ve been doing lots whilst here in Hongcouver. Seeing friends (my decision to not announce my visit to too many in advance was correct; I’ve been knackered), doing work (4 of 5 interview done, couldn’t pin down the 5th), running all sorts of errands (banking, meds). Oh, and shopping. I continue to do more than my share in supporting the Canajun economy. And the US, a bit. Major purchases a Zire 72 Palm Pilot, a HP Photosmart R707 digicam, and accesories for each. Smaller acquisitions include many CDs, a few DVDs and toiletries galore. And I swapped out the router I bought last winter that died shortly after arriving in Oz. 3 cheers for extended warranties, and for retail outlets that keep electronic records when someone tosses the box. And it weren’t me who tossed the box, for the record.
The Zire 72 is a replacement for my M505 of a few years back. Palms are one of those technologies I didn’t need until I got one. This one features Bluetooth (for hotsyncing and for dialing my mobile), a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, is high resolution colour, and has an SD expansion slot (which I’ve already fitted out with a 256MB card). I’m already relying on it, quite happily. And since I stoopidly stepped on my iPod a few weeks ago--OK, I sat on it--I cant’ use my iPod calendar or contacts list (big black blotch on the LCD screen).
The R707 is a bit of a different story. The inimitable
toneyvr is quite the digital artist [u need flash to see his digital portfolio], but doesn’t have a digital camera. Since he’s started grad skool, and since he was always there for me during my studies--and before, and after, he’s just there. For me--I suggested getting him one for birthday/xmas. He demured, and instead suggested I upgrade mine and give him the old one. Which is a Pentax Optio 330. So my new one features 5.1MB, 3x optical, all the bangs and whistles I’d expect. And it too uses SD cards, so I got it a 256MB and am glad I only have to track one type of card.
On a more personal note, this separation from
querrelle has been quite different for me. I’ve been very busy, often distracted and only pine terribly for him in the morning and at bed time. Oh, and several times during the day. But this time we know it’s temporary, we know we’re on wholly solid ground, and....oh fuck it, I miss him terribly. I’m not depressed, just not pleased. 4 more sleeps, including the long flight.
Speaking of the long flight, I just confirmed my upgrade on the YVR-HNL-SYD flight. This is the first time I’ve ever been able to use my Aeroplan upgrade certificates so I’m mighty chuffed. Praise da lord! Plan so far is to eat my way to HNL and sleep HNL-SYD. Where my man will be waiting!
