I'm working again all weekend, as we continue to interview and train volunteers for Vancouver's Olympics and Paralympics in 2010. On Friday we received the final copies of the manuals my colleague B and I wrote back in March-May. It is very moving for me to flip through those 150 pages and think "we wrote this." Eventually the feedback of others proved invaluable when we were in the refinement stage, but really these are our babies. Forever. I am very, very proud of this.

The sessions are designed to inform and inspire. And they seem to very much be doing that. As a facilitator it's a hard day's work, but I'm meeting so many incredible people. Many are huge fans of the Games; many are also simply proud to welcome the world to BC in 2010. I leave every single session in awe of the participants and what they have on offer: volunteers are integral to Games success, since they make up half the total workforce. Based on who's coming through already, we will deliver an extraordinary Olympic and Paralympic Games around 18 months from now.

Some of you may already have applied to volunteer. If not, I encourage you to: this is a once in a lifetime opportunity (click here, and then Apply Now). I would also encourage people to answer Yes to volunteering at upcoming Sport Events. Sport Events are world cup or world championship-level sporting competitions where we test the courses or rink to be used for the Games in 2010.

The next event is Short Track Speedskating at the PNE Coliseum in October. Between January and March next year there will be 15 more Sport Events, both in the Lower Mainland and Whistler. The last Sport Event is over a year from now: women's ice hockey in August/September '09.

Better make some lunch: the next session starts in a few hours.
