I've had the privilege of travelling quite a bit. Here's a photo taken while snorkelling on Aitutaki in the Cook Islands:

I'm in the UBC t-shirt. To quote the musical Carousel, lookit that clam!

Ten years working in the travel industry made into quite the travel slut. And I still feel compelled to travel, though I actually have to pay regular prices to do it. Here's some of the places I've been:

All of Western Europe 'cept Portugal, Norway, Iceland and those piddlin' principalities, Japan, Singapore, Java, Bali, Australia, NZ, Cook Islands, French Polynesia ("Tahiti"), Fiji, Jordan, South Africa, Mexico, Caribbean...plus much of Canada (BC/AB/ON/QB/NS/NF/PE/NB) and the US (ME/CT/MA/NH/VT/NY/NJ/PA/MD/DC/VA/FL/TX/NV/ID/WY/MT/CO/CA/OR/WA/AS/HI).

In other words, I bin dere, I done dat. Or quite a lot anyway.

So time for my first LJ poll:

[Poll #127047]

In about 25 sleeps I'll be back in Hongcouver for a visit--cannot wait.

You're still harping about Ohio? jeeeeeze! *wink* The only states I have not been to are: WA/UT/MT/ND/SD/WI/ME/VA/MD/WY/AK/HI. I've driven across the US over 15 times so far. :-)

Compared to you? Puhleeeeze. Outside the US, Jamaica, Dominican Rep, Italy, Baja Calif, Puerto Rico (but it's part of the US) all when I was racing bicycles.

Those cheese-heads have a lot in common with the canucks ... like hockey, beers, skiing, and liberalism to name a few ... but we definitely don't have a Wisconsin Dell in canuckland!

Well, I made a mistake saying I raced in Baja Calif., although I certainly went there. I chose to use my trips as a retreat, something I do on a regular basis, and stayed about one-third of the way down the west coast. It was pretty isolated because I was camped out but, the water was beautiful and intense blue. Tijuana was a place I tried to avoid by driving thru at odd hours to miss the heavy traffic. Things have changed since I was there last. I was living in L.A. and I moved out of there in 1971. ;-) Meditative retreats, isolated away from civilization, are an important part of my life.

That sounds like I imagined it. Retreats are important. I don't get to do them often and it's usually only for a day or so. Isolated areas are a little hard to come by as day trips here. I usually settle for some alone time someplace quiet - like the beach in winter.

There's nothing like sailing on the open ocean. I just realized that it's been three years since my one (and only) cruise! We sailed on Royal Caribbean to Key West, Mexico, Cayman Islands, and Jamaica. I would love to go on another...if I can just find the time (and the money!).

I've never done a cruise but I probably didn't tell you I lived in a boat moored out in the bay here in Miami for 3 yrs. I used to go sailing pretty often, although my boat was a live-aboard and stayed in the same place. It took me about 15 min. to row to shore but it was a fun time. Biggest boat I've sailed on was about 30 ft. :-)
