[Pinched from here]

As many of you know, the EBU has conducted a web poll to determine 14 finalists for the big 50th Eurovision anniversary show in October (live from Denmark). The public got to choose 10 songs (2 from each of 10 years of entrants), plus 4 wild cards selected by a jury. Here they are:

1956-1965
1958 - Italy - Domenico Modugno - Nel blu di pinto di blu (Volare)
1965 - Luxembourg - France Gall - Poupée de cire poupée de son

1966-1975
1968 - United Kingdom - Cliff Richard - Congratulations
1973 - Spain - Mocedades - Eres tu
1974 - Sweden - ABBA - Waterloo

1976-1985
1976 - United Kingdom - Brotherhood of Man - Save your kisses for me
1980 - Ireland - Johnny Logan - What’s another year
1982 - Germany - Nicole - Ein bißchen Frieden

1986-1995
1987 - Ireland - Johnny Logan - Hold me now
1988 - Switzerland - Céline Dion - Ne partez pas sans moi

1996-2005
1998 - Israel - Dana International - Diva
2000 - Denmark - Olsen Brothers - Fly on the wings of love
2003 - Turkey - Sertab - Everyway that I can
2005 - Greece - Helena Paparizou - My number one

Originally the big 4 were each guaranteed a song but there’s no France. My guess is that Ein bißchen Frieden and Eres Tu were jury choices; I wonder which 2 of the last 4 were--Sertab? Israel?

Oooh I’m already so excited my nipples could cut glass!

I can't believe there are TWO Johnny Logan songs on the list -- that seems to be a bit overkill ...

Hey, at least "Diva" made it. Alas, no "Vuelve Conmigo" -- and I voted for her and Anima's '91 entry too ... ;_;

Biggest dissapointment? That Helena Paparizou made it

HERE HERE!

I mean, it's not a BAD song, but ... one of the best fourteen of all of Eurovision's history? Oh COME now ... it's really not all that great a tune. -_-

Well, “What’s Another Year,” which I initially disliked, has grown on me. More for the actual tune, Logan’s performance is a little too American MOR radio programming for my tastes. But the song is actually elegant in its simplicity.

Unlike “Hold Me Now,” a poor sequel no matter how you look at it.

Helena’s on there just to drum up interest for the young people, probably. I still say she deserves to be there more than Brotherhood Of Man. If I ever hear “Save Your Kisses For Me” again, I may have to projectile-vomit.

I'm going! As long as my credit card works when tickets go on sale I'm heading to Copenhagen with Anna, the flanniest dyke this side of West Hollywood. We are going to make a banner that reads FIST ME JOHNNY and we're going to be staying in the cheapest youth hostel in Copenhagen! Woohoo!
