I’m waiting for the cleaners to come. They normally come on (alternate) Tuesdays, but rang on the weekend and asked if Wednesday would be OK this week. I should have confirmed the time--d’oh! Why am I waiting? To negotiate when they’ll be able to do the final clean of the place for our moveout inspection. Plus I need change so I can pay them (I’ll go down to the café when they arrive).

I had another bout of Eurovision obsession this week ([livejournal.com profile] querrelle would claim it’s the neverending obsession), in search of songs I missed the first time around. These included Diamond of Night [Estonia 1999; 4th], Another Summer Night [Malta, 2001; 9th], and Once in a Lifetime [Estonia; 6th 2000]. In my filesharing meandering I also picked up several Estonia pop tracks, including Unistus by Tanel Padar. As in “I guess this is party time” Everybody [Estonia, 2001; winner]. Grabbed me some Sertab Turkish too...she make me wanna hah hah hahahahah...

Still no cleaners, but 2 telephones calls from Soviet Canuckistan. W00t!

[livejournal.com profile] querrelle is en route from kung fu; we shall luncheon together. He is yoging (yogaing? yogant?) this evening.

A few more of my favourite things about Oz:

Friendliness: Aussies are friendly, say hello people. Even shy ones. Lots of warmth

Sausages: Or “snags” in ‘strine. A land of barbecues is a land of great snags selection. Beef, lamb, pork, chicken, turkey. Mild or spicy or tandoori or honey rosemary. High carb or low carb. Even skinless. I will miss the snags

SBS: Canada has 2 public broadcasters: one English (CBC) one French (Radio Canada). Australia has 2 as well: one general (ABC), one multicultural (SBS). SBS World News is among the best TV news I’ve ever seen. Add in all sorts of foreign films and documentaries, plus Fat Pizza (which I think it is waaay funnier than Kath & Kim), and you get a pretty amazing network. Oh, and they show The Eurovision.

Mass transit: No system is perfect, but the coverage in metro Sydney--buses, trains, trolley car and ferries--is comprehensive. I’m particularly impressed that there is a bus route usually within 2 blocks of anywhere. Bad part: no free transfers between buses, you pay time you board. And weekly passes are a bit dear.

i have never been to a live Euro, but would love to. i miss the Euro parties though. Me and my ex used to do big parties, sit down, get pissed, slag off the acts and they laugh at the biased scoring...ahh happy days
