After a bit o’ drama (package sent by courier, courier stuffs up delivery, delivery rescheduled for after departure from Oz), I got the final galleys on an upcoming journal article, to be published in the Canadian Bulleting of Medical History/bulletin canadien de l’histoire de la médecine. It combines queer issues, activism, health, social justice, discourse and Foucault. How hawt izzat?

Abstract: The is paper examines how a groupd of grassroots activists successfully lobbied for the creation of a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons’ population helath advisory committee in Vancouver-Richmond British Columbia. It documents how committee members balanbed the at times conflicting interests of an institutional structure (the public health system) with those of communities historically marginal to such institutions. the specific achievements and challenges of the committee and its members during its four-year life span, 1997-2001, are discussed, including their ramifications in other contexts.

Pretty frickin’ kewl. And I’m pretty sure [livejournal.com profile] badfaggot has an article in the same edition....

That's terrific- I definitely want to read that! (Did you ever happen to run across my article on L/G community health care organizing in North Carolina in the 1980s & early 1990s?)

Tres interesant

My article's actually a book chapter, in Allida Black's anthology, Modern American Queer History (Temple Univ. Press, 2001).
