Mar. 2nd, 2006 04:08 pmLast night we caught a bit of the Monty Python redux on PBS. And John Cleese was talking about his dick. And the American spokesmodel's head didn't pop off and spurt blood (Rodney: I say, anyone for tennis?). He's aged badly, but I'd still do him...if only for the all the laughter over the years.
In typical Supreme Court of Canada fashion, a ruling today compelled public schools to allow baptized Sikh students to wear their kirpans (ceremonial knives) to school, under certain conditions. The conditions include having it sheathed and under their clothes. Their rationale? No one's ever been attacked by a kirpan-wielding assailant in Canadian public schools, and since Sikhism compels orthodox Sikhs to wear their kirpans (and not to use them as weapons)--but not as a necklace or some other sort of symbolic form--barring evidence of a problem, it needs to be allowed. Because we respect the right to practice one's faith, so long as that practice doesn't impinge upon others. Not liking something isn't an impingement...at least not in Canada. Bravo!
Tomorrow we're off to Whistler and I'm taking a snowboard lesson. Forecast is mixed sun and clouds and hovering around 0C mid-mounting. Gorgeous, in other words. I endeavour to come down inspired, tired, and having done a hazy-fantazy-double-1080 in the half pipe yo! My campaign for the board cross gold in 2010 begins...now!
C'est tout. Faut que je m'en aille.

Date: 2006-03-03 12:52 am (UTC)As a multicultural-friendly leftist who has recently converted to the "armed society = polite society" theory, I think it's wonderful. Even if they aren't sharpened.
Snowboarding: this your first time? Have you gotten through the Three Days Of Pain yet? Or is this old hat to you?
I've snowboarded each and every marked run on both mountains. And some "unmarked ones". Except for the ones that were cut just in the past few years.

Date: 2006-03-03 02:39 am (UTC)Now to see how the Court's ruling effects Quebec's ruling (last year?) upholding the right of private schools to prohibit the wearing of hijabs. (Obviously, this wasn't a private Muslim school.)

Date: 2006-03-03 05:34 am (UTC)I am, however, 42. So much pain is expected. The lesson was 80$ a person, including rental, lesson and lift ticket for the day. Cheaper than just a lift ticket!

Date: 2006-03-03 05:45 am (UTC)We'd have to hire a car though. But could be fun!
I am jealous on your hazy-fantazy-double-1080
