This morning I had my first--OK, only--job specific training session for my role as a volunteer for the 2010 Games. Because we start so early (first shift is 18 December) and are in a non-competition venue, today's session was also our venue-specific training. Thus I have now completed all my training sessions. I'm nearly ready to work: just need my accreditation and uniform.

I am, of course, one of the people handing out the latter. Thus I will be one of the earliest to receive the former. And the latter. :)

As a team lead, my job is to support the front line folks and our management. We use some computers, but the systems are simple and straightforward. We do a fair bit of bending, reaching, lifting and carrying. And we counsel folks trying things on. All 30,000+ of 'em.

I thought the uniforms looked good before, but in person they really *pop*. The bright teal jackets are well made, perfect for the West Coast (it rains a bit here. Well, quite a lot really. OK all the time between November and February). There's a nice fleece vest to add a layer underneath--or as a primary layer for folks working indoors. Both the vest and jacket are the same tone, making it easy for folks to identify those who can assist them. Ditto the tuque.

There are also two long-sleeved "t-shirts", one the same blue, the other also blue but with a textured pattern from the Games-time palette to give it a bit of *oomph*. The pants are the only thing I didn't love: I'm getting the "city" version, which are basically navy blue blend-fabric slacks. The mountain version has awesome pants. *pout*

My first shift is mid-December, though I'll be helping them do setup mid-November for a day as well. Hard to believe it's only 3.5 months until the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics!
