Congratulations Darren Hayes--former lead vocalist of Savage Garden--on his domestic partnership with his lover Richard! May Australia one day recognise and celebrate your family one day very, very soon!
One day it will happen and I am hoping sooner rather than later. I don’t think that It is the majority of Australians that are homophobic just a noisy few.
After all these years of dogging the question, I wonder what made him think it was the right time. Something in the back of my mind says: he wanted to make a real statement about civil rights.
Which I admire him for - although I still can't make myself appreciate his falsetto!
I vaguely remember reading how "truly madly deeply" was about his girlfriend and crap like that... so either... 1. the media made him out to be something he wasn't 2. he was a confused closetcase 3. he's bisexual 4. he's not as brave as I'd have liked.
Tsk. Always liked "Affirmation" though. And there's always been tons of speculation about him and that other guy in SG.
found out it's on his official website as well. Good for him. And about time :-)
You subtly put me in my place when I started labelling poor Darren just then. Thanks for that. I guess my colleagues and some of my environment make me lose my sense of critical thought. Ai.
I'm sure I wrote about it somewhere else in my LJ, but I had the privilege of attending a special 'intimate' performance by Darren late last year, for Foxtel's MAX Channel - The Max Sessions.
The man is TRULY (madly, deeply?) talented. His voice is incredibly pure and his vocal range amazing - I was astounded and moved - and watched it all from about 10 feet away from the stage.
I sort of can understand why he hid it for so long - yes, he WAS married, so may have been confused, but as we know - any person in the media spotlight, be they an actor, singer, politician, etc, has to hide... which says a lot for how much we still have to work for!

I used to work for the record company. I should send off an email to them to pass on.
