I had a great time at Pride this year, my first one in Vancouver since 2002.

Having the Festival of Lights (fireworks) coincide with Pride Week is awesome: several nights of good-to-brilliant fireworks mere steps from our apartment. One night we went out on a boat to watch them; otherwise we watched from the beach, the seawall, or our own balcony. All fun, all free...except the boat. One of the things I love is how we all become instant experts on the craft. "Oh China's effects were at times more dazzling, but Italy's composition, music selection and overall package was slightly better." Just like watching figure skating at the Olympics...."bitch totally 2-footed the landing on that quad toe, but he did complete the rotations..." Good fun.

[livejournal.com profile] querrelle is way more hip and urbane than me: I love our parade. It's not too long, and instead of people throwing gaziliions of $$$ into outfits and decorations, we've been busy fighting for our rights and making sure we take care of one another. :) I'd not marched in probably 10 years, so it was very exciting for me. The crowds are fun, it's almost always a gorgeous day weather-wise too. And we end the parade with a big hang-out on Sunset Beach--though we ould fooks make our exit quickly to get a table at the Fountainhead. It's too easy to think "we've got all our rights, no worries." But there remains a gap between Canada's espoused values and the reailty: there's no shortage of homophobia in the Great White North. And until transgender rights are given these same protections, our job's not finished. Period.

In the evening we did the Leather cruise up Indian Arm. What a great way to pass a summer's eve? Beautiful countryside, a visit to a snazzy little waterfall, and lost of men in dead cow. Some were teh hawt, some were teh skarzy, only 1 or 2 eejits tried to pull of leather bar attitude, much to everyone else's amusement. Music was mostly handbag, which suits me juuuust fine. Ran into all sorts of people, ate a great roast beast dinner. Then wobbled home and slept for 9 hours.

All in all, a great day.
