jawnbc'Twas stand and deliver time today. Deliver as in my poster. Stand as in, stand next to it for 90 minutes. Those of us who do wholly social research are odd ducks, so I can't say a throng of thousands came by. Well actually a throng of thousands walked by. But a few dozen took a copy and I had good chats with several. But I didn't get to make any epidemologists cry...unless they ran to the washroom. Went to a few interesting sessions, but after 3 days nothing's sticking...so I recall none of it right now. As these things go it was the conversations in the halls/cafés that are rich. Some are hustling for jobs, collaborations, increased caché; me, I'm just there to interact, share, challenge, listen, and cruise a bit. There's a high queer content and even the odd str8 scientist who's hawt. I have not seenruralrob. I dont' think. But I tend to stomp through these things anyway. And it's funny to see such a high concentration of type-A personalities in volume. Funny as in bizarre or perverse. I include myself btw...
This evening there was a Canadian satellite meeting on community-based research, a good thing. Some interesting conversations and I got to meet some folks whose work I very much respect. I decided to reroute via the gay ghetto and a friend from back home waved me in to join him and his (Toronto) friends for dinner. That was good fun. Am now back at the hotel, catching up on work and getting ready for the last day of the conference--for me, anyway. I fly out early Friday morning.
Missed the big demo today because of the poster. Damn!
