For those blissfully ignorant about Canadian politics, there may well have been an historic shift in our political discourse yesterday. Rather than go into great detail, my take on it is that there was some cunning poltical instinct at work in the short term, which may well dump us back into the constitutional morass. Please Gawd, not that again: Meech, Charlottetown, 95 referendum...it nauseates me to even think about it.
Last night was my last "real" class of the semester. Dear Gawd, can I please be a professor? I promise to work hard.
And this week has been very productive. And there's yet another day to go. All my to-dos are either done or well progressed.
Off to the shops to find something gorgeous for dinner. With my gorgeous husband. Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating it today.

Date: 2006-11-24 01:15 am (UTC)What about 1.5 million francophones outside Québec? Non francophones within? Acadians? Métis?
Harper things he appropriated a term to put things to rest. Already in Québec they're saying "now that we agree on the words, we need to change the institutions" i.e. the Constitution. If we add a bunch of nations, the soft nationalist will reject the whole thing; if we don't, many other will.

Date: 2006-11-24 03:14 am (UTC)I think i'll accept that Quebec is a nation, but to declare just opens of pandoras box of canadian drama. I'm also worried of what this will lead to. Hopefully, it will just simmer down though...
