notes on a time down under
Dec. 16th, 2006 11:51 pmWe're ensconced in the Air New Zealand Koruclub lounge. A lovely young woman just came and gave us gorgeous amuses gueles and we're using what may well be the only free WiFi site in the entire country. I forgot what an excellent set-up Air NZ has for Star Alliance Gold fooks like us: a separate, quiet, civilized check-in, VIP departure and security clearance, and a lounge that offers a full buffet dinner in the evening. Of which I shall avail myself shortly.
I enjoyed Sydney even more than I anticipated, probably more than I ever have to be honest. First off, was lots and lots of time with
mynumber1 aka Marco. We had many meals, several coffees, and a slew of event thingies over 9 days. And even that wasn't enough...I miss him already. The only other person I prioritized for our time there was Pól. He' submitted his PhD while we were there, but still found time for me. Another person who I just know will be a lifelong friend. We also got in 3 beach days--including some body surfing at Bondi. We left Oz brown and content, though sad to say our good byes.
New Zealand has been mostly about family. We spent roughly half our time up at
querrelle's sister's place, up in the hills above Puhoi. Lots of family stuff, visits to several lovely spots, and a day out on their motorboat. I also got to be Santa Claus for a few minutes. And to chase pigs through paddocks and gardens. And get lots of puppy kisses from a gorgeous Golden Retriever named Lucky. And yes I sang Kylie to him. Of course.
But I must say another thank you to the Auckland posse:
paulo38,
paddygrappler, but especially
mikeybill and
growler_south. They re-arranged their time to accommodate our wonky scheduling, and were great hosts. There's a real sense of community here in Auckland, one which I really appreciated. And some very hawt men too--both masculine and sweet.
This trip was a full one. And a great one. It's the first proper holiday
querrelle and I have taken, save long weekend escapes. We travel well together...w00t!
This will be an annual winter escape for us: a 2 week holiday to Sydney and Auckland/Puhoi. How lucky are we? Lucky..lucky...lucky.
