Greetings from...ANC, Anchorage Inl Airport. Goddamnnedsonofabitchbastardcocksuckingmuthafucking2balledbastard!
We left our cozy cocoon hier soir, and got a late supper. Then we waddled to our departure gate...only to find our flight had been delayed until 02h40. Yes folks, nearly 3am--4am Vancouver time. So we approached the podium and expressed our frustration with the journey so far: we would now be touching down in Fairbanks at around 4am, fully 15 hours since boarding our first Alaska Air flight at 14h00 PST.
They offered us food vouchers, and coupons for a FQTV bonus of 1000 points (yes, I got hard. FQTV points make me hard. Deal.), and poor exhausted
querrelle suggested we stay in ANC for the night. So I slyly said to the agent "would Alaska Air pay for our hotel here tonight, given blah blah blah?" Several phone calls and a supervisor later and we had a rebooking on an 09h30 flight today and a hotel voucher! Sweet.
The Puffin Inn was funky, functional and friendly. We got about 6 hours' kip, had a nice shower and some cuddle time. Our room included a free breakfast, with options of cereal, toast and waffles? Not Eggos either: a snazzy self-serve waffle iron.
querrelle was sensible, but I waffled. We were back at the airport by 08h30 this morning. Security took about 20 minutes...only to find this morning's flight is now delayed an hour. Still should be OK, since
querrelle has rescheduled our transfer to Chena directly from the airport instead of our never made it to hotel in Fairbanks.
Oh, and of the 2 people "identified by your airlines for addtional screening" one was an adolescent travelling as an unaccompanied minor and the other an Alaska Native woman travelling on her own with an infant. Whoever the eejit is who came up with that particular racial profile for terrorism should get his assed kicked. Nice.

Bah humbug!
Date: 2006-12-29 02:53 am (UTC)The joys of Xmas Travel - or travelling with CONNECTIONS in general... I don't envy you one bit.
But it sounds like you were very GOOD at asking for more - I know if someone was nasty to me, I would go out of my way NOT to help them - my personal policy at the airport is to NOT reward bad behavior!
But if someone asks for something in a nice way, they'll normally get what we can do...
Well done on getting that little extra! Sounds like although it was a little dampener on the holiday, it made for a little adventure!
*hugs*
