Had a belated birtfday lunch (hers, not mine) with Noel my evil twin. A couple of years ago we decided to skip the oh-muh-gawd-wot-do-I-get-her/him-4-a-prezE schtuff and just take one another out for a nice meal. So we had lunch at Rainy City Grill, which is mere steps from our doorstep. The meal was tasty and the service excellent (on the ball but not at all stuff), but the highlight was the company.
We covered a lot of territory - work, relationships, opera - with some serious moments and a lot of laughter. We met in 1991 or 92 and she was the first real friend I ever had. Some 15 years later the value and importance of having folks with some history is more and more apparent to me. And when she gave me a high-5 and said "yay! you're back!" she didn't mean from Australia. Our opera season starts in a fortnight with The Magic Flute. We've had very similar life trajectories, and just being at the Opera - based on where we started out in this world, as well as the challenges we've each faced - particularly delicious.
BTW she's Vinnie's (the gayest dawg au Canada; see icon) Mum. And this is not even close to his most disturbing ensemble...
