some questions, some answers
Mar. 8th, 2007 03:54 pmOK. You're a contestant at Eurovision. What song do you choose, and why?
Well I can't pick one already performed - that's again the rules (though if I were able to pick one it'd be «Un jour, un enfant» by Frida Boccara, truly lovely). if I go I wanna win, so it'll be something uptempo, with a key change, a melody that sounds familiar but not identical to other pop songs, and a powerful refrain. Oh, and for my gimmick I'd sing whilst being carried around on the shoulders of 4 big burly musclemen. Who the sing the harmonies.
What's wrong with being an asshat? ;)
There's only room for one asshat around here. And my hat is bigger 'n yours.
How did you meet
querelle? What made you fall in love with him?
This is his side of it. And mine is here. It was initially to be a friendly, internet-arranged shag. As to what made me fall in love with him? Him being hawt helped. So did him being awesome sex. And he's smart and worldly and has a marvelous sense of humour. But I fell in love with him because I fell in love with him. There were no criteria involved. :)
What is the attraction to Rosie O'Donnell and Oprah Winfrey? Seriously... do you like evil women? :)
Well both have stuck their necks out and brought a range of issues to the chesterfields of many homes (mostly American, but around the world now) that were taboo. They played important roles in demystifying sexual abuse, homophobia, eating disorders, school violence and any number of other subjects. They both have a great sense of humour. And they're both very, very smart women. It would have been so easy for each of them to do the more standards "smile and say nothing substantive" schtick so frequently found on American teleivision. Even thought I dont' always agree with either of them, I believe they are both trying to do things that make the world a better place. Oh, and Oprah got more Americans reading--and not usually fluffy books either. Rosie did all she could to bring American musical theatre back into public consciousness for the first time since the 1960s.
Someone else in their answers mentioned that it took him a long time to see wealthy people as real people rather than "bourgeois". Have you harbored similar sentiments?
Kind of...but not reallly. There's an old joke: "An American sees a mansion on a hill and says 'Someday that'll be me up there,' whereas an Irishman says 'someday I'll get that bastard!'". I actually resented middle class people more than the really wealthy when I was a kid. Today I hold nothing against anyone based on their money or education or what have you. I have met people from old money who were almost always pleasant and warm; I have met many more people with new money who are shitty and disrespectful. I measure everyone by the content of their character. What does happen, because of my work, is I often challenge the status quo. Usually those who benefit most from the status quo are the least happy to have someone like me saying "this isn't acceptable". When I/we (it's always a "we" job) succeed in shifting things towards more fairness, some get quite ugly.
I'm not an authority, but you can question me anyway by clicking here.
