about time too! puts us aussies to shame eh? my friend could sponsor her girlfriend through "de facto" immigration...she's now a resident. but for two years while they did the paperwork, her girlfriend couldn't work. my girlfriend couldn't claim her as a dependant through tax. it sucks. it was really hard for them. very stressful. immigration recognises their relationship but tax dept does not. stupid.
