full scoreboards available now for semi's
May. 24th, 2008 05:23 pmI won't speak to the result in detail. Suffice to say *my* preferred songs didn't do as well as hoped. Preferred, btw, doesn't mean what I predicted earlier. But I didn't see anything in the top 10 that wasn't noteworthy in some respect. Azeris? Hated it, but see how it did well. I think Greece was smart: a girl who can sing 5 notes really well had a charming, catchy 5 note song to sing. And the choreography was outstanding. Armenia? There are 2 EWNs, beginning and towards the end. She seemed possessed almost. Had the Yerevan posse splurged on a couple of female background singers to carry the Qele Qele refrain, she might have cleaned everyone's clocks.

Sweden was saved by the jury on Thursday night: who would have predicted *that*? Portugal finished 2nd in the more competitive semi--well done Vania. Who says a later draw doesn't help?
Semi 1: 5 songs with 100+ points, two more above 90, then 8th (Finland) drops to 79, 9th (Bosnia) 72. 10th qualifier? Poland with a measly 42 points! Slovenia and Moldova shared the painful 11th with 36, though Slovenia had points from more countries and are placed ahead. 13th (Netherlands) was a measly 27 points. And poor San Marino were the bottom feeders with a paltry 5 points...but better than the Czech's last year! A very skewed and clustered distribution of points.
Interestingly Greece "only" had 4 12's, while 3rd place Armenia had 5 (Russia only 2). Of Montenegro's lowly 23 points, 22 came from ex-Yugos: 12 from Bosnia; 10 from Slovenia.
Semi 2: Also 5 songs with 100+ points, two more almost exactly both at 85, next two almost exactly both at 67. Macedonia would have been 10th on 64 points (instead of Sweden on 54). After the mid 40s on 13th, we drop to 30s for 14 through 16. Hungary shockingly only got 6 points and last place. Also avery skewed and clustered distribution of points.
Ukraine had 6 12s, Portugal 2, Denmark 3. Latvia and Lithuania swapped (again) 12s....how did they end up in the same semi?
