My commute via the scenic route is just under 22 minutes--were I to take the fast way I could perhaps shave 7 minutes off it. I found street parking about 500m from the building; free, unrestricted parking. However I was a tad late (5 minutes) because I was waiting for the temperature to rise a bit on this frosty morning. I don't like riding a scooter when the road is icy; call me a sissy.

My new boss was all smiley and friendly and immediatedly introduced me to my new computer:

Yeah, the one with the top specs. :D Along with a keyboard and mouse.

We then reviewed some admin stuff, talked about what I'd be working on this week, and did a round of introductions. Everyone is very, very nice and relaxed and happy and chilled. My new workstation is a large double pod with just me in it; it's already bigger and more private that what I had at VANOC. So I set about configuring things, getting desk supplies...you know, nesting. The morning flew by and I was late for my daily chat with [livejournal.com profile] querrelle.

There were only a few minor hiccups in the onboarding process, most of which I anticipated. I'm coming in as staff when I used to be academic staff, so there's some migration of various accounts that needs to happen. A few phone calls and all but a couple are already sorted. Bonus: new email is a push account and the uni's instructions on configuring my iPhone worked like a charm!!!!

Our unit is split between two buildings across campus from one another, so the boss took me over to the new one and I met more of the staff there this afternoon, including our director. A friend from Sydney Uni works there and we caught up for a few before I toddled back to my office via the café for a mocha to go.

I don't yet have keys or an alarm code, so I had to leave early (hated that). Left home at 840; home at 540, including a stop en route. Office hours are 830-430. I can live with all of this very easily.

It's nice to have my life back.

Oh that's a really nice work system.

So what is your new job (or in other words what would I have to do to get a computer like that :-)?
