Back in January 1999 I came off my scooter on the way home from work. I broke both arms that day

Almost 9 years to the day, and a mere 10m down the road, my rear tire blows out.

I'm fine but 'Twas fookin' scary. And now I await my tow.

How many K`s on that tire? It couldn't been very much.
I hit black ice on Tuesday and the bike went out from under me, I managed to stay on my feet, but the bike ended up on the grass. I tweeked my hip a bit, but nothing broken or bruised.

5600km. But Aaron the crazy scooter tow truck driver said the higher cc and smaller wheels can wear them down faster. I dunno.

Vespa's folks offered to fix it on the spot, but I demurred: I'd rather they take the time tomorrow with it.

I managed over 7000 km on my first rear tire, got almost 11000km on the fronts and they both still look new. On the Modern Vespa forum, people are always comparing tire wear, and a lot of it has to do with the way you ride.

I freak a bit while I'm riding when I think about blowing a tire. Not looking forward to it. What happens when I'm half way across the province when I blow a tire? Maybe I should carry a spare or 2 or 3???

This is the kind of weird thing that can easily happen. When I was a kid, whenever we drove through the sleepy town of Thame in Oxfordshire, the car would always break down. All sorts of reasons, over a very long time, often at the same stretch of road. We ended up having to boycott the place!!

Glad you didn't dump this time!
Watch your air pressure. An under-inflated tire heats up more, and is more prone to failure. Not only will you get better handling, but your tires will wear longer.

I had a similar crack up once, hit a pothole, flew over the handlebars of my bike and -whamo- my arm now goes in a new direction.
