A plebiscite was held today (Saturday) in Vancouver, regarding Vancouver's bid for the Winter 2010 Olympics. The Question:

"Do you support or do you oppose the City of Vancouver's participation in hosting the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games?

___ YES, I support the City of Vancouver's participation.
___ NO, I oppose the City of Vancouver's participation."

Yes 64%, no 36%, with 46% of eligible votes cast. A pretty resounding endorsement for a city notorious for <30% turnout in special municipal polls.

W O O H O O ! ! !

I'm a huge supporter of the bid, and this positions Vancouver solidly in the lead. We find out more in July, when the IOC votes the 2010 games.

Reminds me of a conversation yesterday involving two ofthe usual suspects - if you're familar with my LJ you'll know these are the regulars at our Village Diner. It went something like this . ..

"I hear we're bidding for the Winter Olympics?" said one
"You mean Warkworth is?" said the other, astonished.

(You had to be there.) But anyway, I'm adding you to my friends list. Feel free to do the same if you can stand the excitement!
