Boats-n-hos
Jun. 19th, 2009 07:56 pmWe are in the bowels basement of Tommy and Theresa's place on Long Island. It is not quite 20h YVR time, but I could go to sleep now, which would be very, very...not the best idea.
Aside from a slight delay getting to the airport due to hawt hawt birthday sex (
querrelle 's natal was yesterday--happy birthday buachill!), we were through security at YVR in plenty of time. We flew Cathay Pacific and really they put any NOrth American airline to shame. First, checking in online was easy-peasy--and
querrelle 's being a landed immigrant often renders him ineligible for online check-in--with the CX res folks pre-assigning us very nice seats. We zipped directly through security in search of food, only to find Subway. Meh. But we also found a 5m salt water aquarium in the gate area--way cool!
We boarded on-time, took off on-time, and settled in quickly. CX has rolled out new economy class seats that use a bucket system: when you recline you slide forward rather than backward. So I can work without the person crushing my laptop, people can slouch through dinner, etc. And the in-flight entertainment was stunning.
I got about 3 hours of sleep;
querrelle none (I took a pill). We arrived early, got through US Customs efficiently, and waited about 30 minutes for Tommy to get us. When we got to his place Theresa greeted us, fed us tea and bagels (OMFG NY bagels!!!) before a 2 hour nap.
My online purchases were waiting too. So far I'm loving the new camcorder (I'll load some video next week; too busy here), the cowboy boots (ropers, acterly) fit almost perfectly, and got some lovely clothes as well. We also did some shopping at the Mall (not the Galleria, And it didn't suck),with my god-daughter Caitlyn, since I needed flash memory. I managed to score some good deals on tripods and a spare cable. End. Of. Shopping.
We've had a great day visiting. Great family, good fun, sitting on the porch. All my nieces are brilliant and funny and gorgeous. They even organized a birthday cake for
querrelle 's birthday (that video is totally going online!).
Tomorrow we're off to PA and the 'rents' anniversary BBQ. Should be a nice time. We're back her in the evening; Sunday
querrelle and I are off to the Brooklyn museum before flying back to YVR late Sunday night.
