Oct. 19th, 2009 09:22 pmI had a gorgeous flex day (off) today. I started with a visit to the optometrist, where the continued decline in my eyesight (especially long distance) was confirmed. I hoped onto the Canada Line over to Broadway, then towards Main Street for a wander around Mount Pleasant. Had a lousy coffee at a hip café, explored a bogus "liquidation sale" at a boot store, and then waddled down to the site of the new Olympic Village.
Lots of photos here.
After some worries about it being completed in time, the Village is really taking shape. There's a building that's purposely built to look like a stack of cards tumbling over, and everything is bright, shiny and sparkly. Come 01 November the site is secured until nearly April '10, so my peek today will probably be my only chance. I wandered around for about an hour...thought I really would've like to explore the buildings themselves.
I then headed to my optician for the new script to be filled. Picking frames is always a pain for me, but eventually I settled on a pair and will pick them up early next week. I had a sensible Wendy's lunch (spicy chicken fillet, caesar salad, diet Coke™), and then headed home.
My daily 13h chat with Himself, 4 loads of laundry, a dental appointment to fix a chipped toof, and a proper grocery shop rounded out the day. Then it was on the phone with the lovely Theresa, my sister (in law) to discuss Olympic plans. Then the season's first ice skating lesson, a lovely pasta dinner, and now it's me,
querrelle and the Economist in bed. Quelle ménage!
