Et que les jeux commencent!
Feb. 12th, 2010 08:16 amThe Olympic flame just went past our place. :)
Today begins yet another dream for me: attending an Olympic Games. In less than 12 hours the Opening Ceremony (singular please) will be under way. I was at the final dress rehearsal so I already know all the performers and songs. I don't know who will bear the Olympic flag into the Ceremony; ditto the final torchbearers or the specifics about the cauldron.
I'm working from home today, then it's off to
querrelle 's office for their Olympic celebrations. Yes, I am the token torchbearer: wind me up, watch me...waddle. Then I will hang with my volunteer peeps to watch the ceremony live in TV. Then I'll try to sleep.
Getting today's been quite the journey. Here's my LJ Olympic timeline:

Getting today's been quite the journey. Here's my LJ Olympic timeline:
- Summer 1972: I am mesmerized by the Munich Summer Games, particularly the gymnastics. Henceforth I will re-arrange my life every four (and then 2) years to watch the Olympics. This can be vexing when the times are when one should be sleeping. Sleep be damned!
- Spring 1994: I write an opinion piece "Vancouver should go for the gold" for the Vancouver Province newpaper
- July 2003: I am awake in Sydney at 130am watching a CBC live stream when Vancouver is awarded the Games
- November 2007: I get a job working at Vanoc in the training department, where I almost entirely write the Service Excellence and largely write the General Orientation training manuals.
- February 2008: I work the graveyard to help launch the online volunteer application program
- November 2008: After a tumultuous year I resign from Vanoc, but also line up my volunteer role handing out uniforms
- December 2009: I work my first volunteer shift--and get my volunteer uniform
- February 2010: Let the Games begin!
