On Friday I had a root canal done. It's my second; the first was a nightmare. This one was much better. It took 2 whole days before I felt the stabbing feeling behind my eye.

Which is why I'm still awake: codeine's taken the edge off; now I'm waiting for a sleeping pill to kick in.

I'm not too sure whether you're being cynical / sarcastic.... But I'm sure glad I've never had to have root canal, or my wisdom teeth removed. Which is kinda weird, considering I have a mouth full of fillings!

This one was much better. The last one was done by a butcher. When the novocaine wore off it felt like I had been stabbed in the face. Codeine made it an ache, but I couldn't function from the buzz. That lasted 5 days. My "one more followup" visit ended being 2.

Conversely Friday's was pain-free during and after the procedure-it was only about 48 hours after that it hurt. On balance it's been OK.

Root canal is really a euphemism for removing a nerve. You can't remove a nerve without your nervous system bitchslapping you around a bit. But I can drink hot tea again for the first time in 5+ years. If you need one, totally go for it.

This is good to know. So far I haven't needed one. But I suspect it might be in my future (some considerable sensitivity on the upper left side) and I truly dread the thought of it. My dentist is good and she even numbs the fuck out of my face when doing a cleaning because I am such a basket-case otherwise.
