Tempus fugit

3.5 months have flown by. 2 weeks from today I’ll be in querrelle’s arms and our home. Amazing.

But enough about us, I wanna talk about me. What do you think about me?

This week is already looming large: a journal article to finish, edit, and ship out; revision of another; review outlines for a special edition of a journal I’m guest editing; send out call for papers for another special edition of a journal I’m guest editing; various admin tasks; interview one guy tomorrow arvo and schedule 3 more interviews for the queer youth project; and get ready for the first Christmas with The Family in 15 years.

15 years ago I did the Angry Gay Christmas, having kicked down the closet door a couple of years earlier. Ma and Da’s homophobia were wearing thin and we were all tense. I’m not entirely certain whether the fact that we were all loaded was a bad or good thing. The next year I moved to Hongcouver 2 weeks before Christmas: my new fook you. Nyah nyah, très mature. Not. And this will almost definately be Ma’s last Christmas, and we’re all gearing up to make it a good one. Da and I are even gonna try doing something work-like together for the first time in 20 years: clean out the attic. I suspect Da’ll want to sell the house quickly after Ma dies--a decision I wholly support. Big house, all alone, tons of memories.

I did a reconaissance to the attic in October, and it’s mostly crap and seasonal clothes. Mostly it will be an exercise in bagging and putting it all curbside. And trying to stay on the boards and not fall through the drywall ceiling of the rooms below, like Ma’s. It’s also entirely possible Da will have changed his mind about doing this with me at all.

Today was a grand day! Brunch with Spike the Dyke and the lovely Elaine, followed by The Magic Flute at UBC’s Chan Centre, then goulash 4 dinner with the girls, followed by a DVD [Sordid Lives, thank you Bill S.!] and a chat with my man.

If I may, I'd suggest finding a worthwhile organization in the area who could use the clothing and donating it to them. For example, women's shelters, assistance groups who do not put strings on their help. Rather than curbing the stuff, maximize it and donate it to a good cause.
