For me . . .
Nov. 22nd, 2004 09:25 pmBeing Oirish means . . .
-I am entitled to be eloquent, charming and personable
-I treat strangers with greater hospitality than my immediate family
-I know my family is probably better than everyone else’s, but I’m still not good enough for Gawd
-I use the subjunctive in English
-my capacity for passion is, at times, profound
-my capacity for intimacy is, at times, impaired
-my ability to revel in lethargy belies an impressive work ethic
-music, poetry and/or nature make me weep
-I am fiercely loyal . . . though loyalty is something once lost, never regained
-regardless of my beliefs about religion or Gawd, I am always deeply spiritual
-no matter what my enemies do, I and my people stand united
-mine and my people’s greatest foes are internal strife, bickering and resentment
-excellence is good; self-importance is anathema
I can see my face out there.
