jawnbc | Ma's doing alright!

I rang Ma this morning, at the hospital. I was shocked--pleasantly shocked--with her chipper demeanor. This time it wasn’t her breathing that was the problem. During her last hospital stint a catheter had given her a urinary tract infection--and it wasn’t clearing up. In fact, either the infection, the system stress of it, or both, was causing her problems. Most recently she developed uncontrollabel tremors, and they were getting worse--and exhausting her.

So she called her GP Thursday morning, and they discussed her options. He was gonna be off-call this weekend, and Ma was unimpressed with one of his colleagues (as was I; the other guy was OK)--rather than risk a trip back to the shitty local hospital (Peninsula General in Far Rockaway), she wanted to go to South Nassau. Her doctor, knowing Ma well said “well if you can get to South Nassau I’ll admit you. But you have to promise that if you get into distress en route you’ll go to Peninsula.”

riderofkarma got Ma in the car and to South Nassau. Where Dr. Ceccarelli was waiting, with nurses, and wholly expedited things. Since being there she’s been on a 3 anti-biotic combo (IV), and is improving rapidly. “Even the food is great!” so this has been a good thing. And Dr. Ceccarelli also said “Well Pat, you got yourself here, I’ll make sure I get you home.” This is me loving Dr. Ceccarelli.

We chatted about stuff, I told her about my book, and she told a funny story about my brother Tom. He showed last night in a very nice, designer suit (she kept saying “he looked so handsome” over and over), but during his visit someone else in the room needed rapid medical intervention. “I’m sorry you’ll have to leave the room for 15 minutes” announced the nurse. “But not you sir, if you’re a doctor.” Apparently Tommy’s face almost cracked he was grinning so hard.

But just for the goddamn, muthafuckin record: I AM THE ONLY DOCTOR IN THIS FAMILY!!!! ME!!!!!

I'm glad your Ma is doing better ... South Nassau sounds way better.

And you stick to your guns about being Doctor Jawn, baby. 'Cause that's "Doctor Jawn the Published Awthor", know what I'm sayin' !!?? Tommy can slog through several years of grad school if he wants that kinda street cred.

On another note, think of all the money and time you could have saved getting yer edjication, when all you needed to do was buy a really sharp suit!
