gay marriage au Canada: a close one
Sep. 16th, 2003 03:42 pmThe Canadian Alliance party--Western Canadian fringe whingers all too often (we know all about what they're against, but not much about what they're for) put forth a motion in the House of Commons today, affirming marriage as being between a man and a woman. Or words to that effect.
It failed. Narrowly, but it failed. Most government (Liberal), NDP and Bloc (both social democratic parties) voted against it, as did a handful of Tories. The vote wasn't binding (a motion isn't legislation), but it not having passes makes the ultimate legislation of same-sex marriage in Canada all the more likely.
But Canadians on here--living in Canada or not--please contact your MP and encourage them to support equality for all Canadians. We have to keep the pressure up!
