Apr. 24th, 2003 11:34 amThanks to those who responded to the travel poll. And now it's time for...
AROUND THE WORLD WITH THE L - Js!
We being our travels in the Pacific Northwest, by exploring tide pools at Pacific Rim National Park on Vancouver Island, thanks to
vwaffle. Next we fly north to Anchorage, with
kosseferal at the wheel as we head for Denali Park: guaranteed to be knock-you-out gorgeous. At base camp helicopter awaits to bring us back to Anchorage for our American Airlines flight to San Jose Costa Rica, for a 4 day mini-trek, featuring rainforests, volcanos and the famous Manuel y Antonio beach.
pigboy74 has picked an exclusive villa for our stay here--thanks dude!
Tonight we board our Lan Chile flight to Santiago (First class of course), with an early morning connection to Pucon, which
danlmarmot assures has Great food, scenery, relaxation. Evening at your leisure. Early the next day we fly via Santiago to Quito and board our 7 day eco-cruise to the Galapagos Islands.
ruralrob promises they will be luverly! All meals, beverages and snorkel and dive equipment are included. Satellite internet access as well, for those who can't bear to miss a day on LJ (probably all of us).
On to Bora Bora in French Polynesia
jawnbc will be buying the Pina Coladas, and there's lots to do--lagoon, snorkelling, feeding stingrays and sharks, sunbathe. Wonderful polynesian/French fusio cuisine, and Bora boreans are among the most strikingly gorgeously handsome people you'll ever see, men, women or mahus, indigenous MTF transgenderfolks who frequently work as childcarers and community leaders. After a wonderful traditional polynesian feast, we fly tonite to Aotearoa...The Land of the Long White Cloud, also known as New Zealand. From Cape Reinga, to the Bay of Islands, Auckland, the Coromandel, Rotorua and Waitomo, through to Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and Milford Sound, we'll spend 10 days in this beautiful land of warm, friendly people. As <
bearchow says, New Zealand is paradise on earth.
After a restful night in Christchurch, we fly north to Hong Kong, for a quick sojourn into China. Clever and trilingual
stingray1975 -- will guides us through theYunnan countryside for a few days. then it's back to Hong Kong for our night flight to Nairobi. For the next 10 days we'll be guided through the bush on a photosafari--the best times to view wildlife are pre-sunrise and post-sunset, so plan on taking an afternoon nap!
mattblakk says we should particularly make time to watch at least one sunset in the savannah (one word: orange).
This evening we fly via London to Milan, for a visit to Il Duomo and La Scala, where we'll take in a performance of La Bohême, followed by a wonderful dinner al fresco. This morning, after waking up in Italy--
art_thirst is sure to be the first one up-- it's a quick train ride to Florence, for three days of galleries, shopping and the worlds' best gelato!
Nextwe fly over to Orlando for a few days of Disney Magic.
baraksf promises to exploit his connections to get us a private tour of the Animal Kingdom. Of course we'll do all the Disney stuff. Eventually time requires us to fly to Salt Lake City for a few nights hiking and camping in the Utah mountains, under the watchful eye of
minimac. As we drive out to the West coast in our caravan of RVs,
goreyboy swears that the stars in the desert at night are spectacular--and he's right. So we'll stop eachnight far outside the city lights to take it all in. Wow...
Last stop? The Lone Star, which is where we pretend toleave
beardoc. But of course we ALL quickly return and share hugs and a toast a on the patio of this legendary bear bar.
Thanks for the journey
