Thank you for writing in support of Bill C-38. Let me assure you that the federal NDP will work to have this bill passed this session so as to further enshrine equality rights.

We have offered to extend this session of Parliament to make sure the Liberal government follows through on its obligation to pass Bill C-38. Paul Martin has abdicated his leadership on extending human rights to lesbians and gays by saying that the matter is up to Stephen Harper. For those unawares, the NDP is Canada's social democratic party. It has steadfastedly led Canada on issues of justice, and initiated what became Canada's single-tier public health care system. Canada works best when there are enough NDippers in Ottawa to influence debate and the legislative agenda.
