Fook the cynical fooks who think this is a worthless exercise. The world is rarely improved by those who resolutely think inside the box.

And Fook Paul Martin for not commiting to the .7 funding level--it was Lester Pearson’s damned idea: Canada not committing when so many others have is just stingy. We’ve have debts but as a nation we’re wealthy. Bang my taxes up a $100 bucks a year. Ça ne me dérange pas.

As for the artists, Coldplay, U2, Madonna, Robbie and so many artists comported themselves well. But Dido, you’re just not of a calibre as a singer to be sharing a stage with Youssou N’Dour. Especially with your “I went to the chip shop and then my local and there was a boy there and he smiled at me, and that’s what life is all about” banal songs.

Ugh!I cant STAND that Dido......so booooooooooring! There are a hundred other female singer/songwriter/producers who are a thousand times better and I could never figure out why she was so heavily promoted when you have women like Julia Fordham/Jann Arden/Jane Siberry etc etc who've been doing the exact same act for a thousand years a hundred million times better!Dido is like a musical Nicole Kidman.

Anyone who increases my taxes one penny dies a horrible death. Most Canadians agree with Martin that we shouldn't necessarily commit to the .7 target, according to a Decima poll that came out a few days ago.

I tend to agree with Martin that there are other issues that need to be addressed, such as trade issues and the agricultural subsidies in the US and EU, for example.

Damn straight. Tis better to try and do something than sit about and loftily say, "oh but it isn't worth it. nothing good will come of helping them."

I'm a bit conflicted about the whole Live 8 thing, personally. Certainly I think it's important to raise awareness, but I also fear that a lot of people will say "hey, I attended, I did my bit, and now I don't give a shit about making the kinds of real, fundamental changes that matter".

I was also somewhat underwhelmed by the Canuck lineup -- are Gordon Lightfoot, Bryan Adams, Deep Purple, Randy Bachman and freakin' Motley Crue really the best we can do? Couldn't at least one of those spots have been reserved for someone who's at least vaguely significant in 2005, like K-Os, the Arcade Fire or Broken Social Scene? Honestly...
