Je m’excuse, on packe...

We’ve made the list, we’ve apportioned timeframes, we’ve even started the pack purge cycle. With the removallists movers coming Wednesday morning (they pack it all too), we need to identify and isolate all the to-be-shipped stuff before then. And we need an inventory of both what we’re bringing and what will arrive later for Canada Customs, so that needs to be done by then too.

I’m ready to get it all done and I’m ready to be gone. After Wednesday I’ll be able to enjoy folks’ company better. We’re to dine Wednesday with Anthony and Brian (another Anglo-Aussie/Canuck couple), then we’re off to 41 Thursday with some of [livejournal.com profile] querrelle’s wing chun posse. Friday night will be Ultimate Bears, Saturday is our self-thrown time-for-tubbie-bye-bye shindig, Sunday will be Ultimate Shift. Monday night is reserved for Marko (and we’ll be at a hotel at the airport), then we’re off.

Decisions to be made: ADSL or cable (might be decided for us)? Do we get a landline at all? With whom do we primarily bank? What do I do with my hair?

ADSL, cable has "security issues". You'll need a landline for the ADSL. Choose any bank with no fees and internet access. I think the purple wig from your lj icon for travel.

Get cable if you can. It craps all over ADSL (having had both at various points in my life). Don't get a landline - get VOIP.

Let your hair become naturally wild, then shave it all off and sell the cuttings to a wigmaker. Waste not, want not.

Can't comment on banks, I think they all have major issues.

In BC, specifically in Van, I found that ADSL was far better than cable. Shaw's cable 'net is shared by the people in your area, thus after work/evenings you'll get very slow usage as everyone around you is going online. ADSL on the other hand is individual.

Of course all of this is mute - with Telus on strike, you might not be able to get ADSL installed these days. Dito a new landline.

Anyway, before I moved from Van I only used a cellphone, no landline. (And you *can* have ADSL without a landline.)

I have issues with most banks, but enjoyed the service at VanCity. With the way they support the queer communities, I like supporting them.

No, I meant to "mis"spell it - given that the phone company is on strike, I think it is a "mute" point ;)

Hm. I can't comment, having never seen your hair, but the other advantage of longer hair is improved insulation - cooler in summer, warmer in winter :)

My hair is currently the longest it's been since 2001 (when I did the shave for the cure and went from hair-I-could-sit-on to bald) and I look like I'm wearing a mop (if I have applied product) or like I'm trying to be Guy Sebastien (if I have failed to apply product), but at least I'm comfortably warm...

I'm having problems visualising a 3cm hairdon't. Still, it's your head!

When I moved to Montréal I had no problems with my Douanes Canada list. I was super precise about everything that I brought and everything being shipped later. I crossed the border by land (Greyhound), everyone was really cool and I got all of my things with no problem. Here's hoping it will go as smoothly for you!

Here's a "Me too" on the ADSL. Get cable if you like media conglomerates spying on your every move.

Not THAT kind of spying. :)

Yer gonna be in Vancouver...go with VanCity Savings (https://www.vancity.com/) for the banking thing, cause it ain't one of the Big Five and the Big Five must die.

Can't really help on the other questions, though.

I think you should take your hair and bring it down south at your earliest convenience.

Hope the removalists don't lose anything, as they are, from friends' experience, quite adept at that.

Can't wait until you get settled in Bancoober and can't wait to see what life brings for you both.
