OK! We lost 3 entries last round. Was is the dulcet tones of singing in German that scuttles Nicole to Euro-oblivion? Is this just not Johnny Logan's Another Year? Might Lady Sir Cliff have to pitch yet another Xmas single for any sense of Congratulations in 2005?
Pish, posh, 'tis all water under the bridge now. Is schlager, haggard? Feeling beaten up by thumping pop beats? Have sugary sounds necessitated a does of insulin, stat? It's time to vote for your favourite of the remaining 11 entries! Lines are now open!

Date: 2005-09-26 06:32 pm (UTC)I think it will be ABBA in a walk, though a couple of "wotif" scenarios do play on my twisted mind:
1. Greeks are obsessive about this shit and live everywhere. Had Antiques "Die for You" been the song, I could sorta live with that. But not "My Number 1"
2. Ditto Turks, and they're even more ubiquitous. Difference is, if Sertab wins I'd totally be kewl with that
3. Darned Danes. I really like "fly on the wings of lurve" but am still perplexed how it romped to victory in 2000. Could the peculiarities of televoting mean a repeat?
If it were a worldwide vote (like the web nomination process) I'd have "Eres tu" as the darkhorse: a huge hit in Latin America and the US. I remember hearing on AM radio when I was a wee bairn in NYC.

Date: 2005-09-26 06:39 pm (UTC)Indeed! I far preferred that song to "My Number 1" ...
but am still perplexed how it romped to victory in 200
You and me both. Especially since they were damn near cracking up in the middle of the performance. Okay, there was a lot of crap in 2000, but still ...
I'd have "Eres tu" as the darkhorse
Hehehe -- the more I think about it, the more I realize how much I've grown to love that song after all this time ...

Date: 2005-09-26 08:00 pm (UTC)I don’t know. It’s kind of nice to have a Greek winner after all these years. Sure, it’s basically warmed-over imitation ABBA, but I prefer it to bloody Charlotte and her plastic tits anyday (or, for that matter, Bobbysocks and their “it’s basically “Waterloo” with different lyrics, horrible 80’s production values and the “whoa-oh-oh-oh” bit taken out).
I doubt it really will win, though, unless all the voters are 11 years old.
It’s OK. I’m certain no one could have predicted it would win, it certainly doesn’t sound like the sort of tune that wins Eurovision. And I know a number of people who absolutely hate it. But I’m OK with it.
Still, I prefer “Dansevise”, even if it only won because the Norwegian jury cheated.

Date: 2005-09-26 07:05 pm (UTC)But I do remember "Eres tu" from US radio play within the first year or two after it won (and not just the remake/appropriation/whatever it was, "Touch The Wind," but the actual "Eres tu" that I have to hope was the original), and while it's not on my iTunes or anything like that, I'm going to go with it because it's a fine song that should be better known even by people who are not big Eurovision geeks.

Date: 2005-09-29 05:25 pm (UTC)Wasn't Eurovision broadcasted MONTHS ago? I'm pretty sure it did, because I know who the winner is. If you truly are watching it for the first time, I won't spoil the results for you.

These wil be voted on during a special broadcast in mid-October. Last week 3 songs were eliminated here *(my own private poll).

Date: 2005-09-29 07:30 pm (UTC)But let's be honest: that dude who sang S A G A P O at the 2002 contest (Michael Ratzinis or something like that), HE's the worst Greek singer ever!
