There's been a bit of a discursive dust-up between Indonesia and Australia. And it's included some cartoons--sound familiar? The catalyst was the granting of temporary refugee status (of a sort) to several Papuan Indonesians by Australia.

First an Indonesian newspaper came out with this lovely example of the expressive arts:

Dude in the front is Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer. He's being pumped from behind by the Right Honourable Little Johnnie Howard, Prime Minister of Australia.

An Australian paper returned the favour:

That's the Indonesian PM, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono banging a Papuan

I was thinking about you today, funny that you should pop up first on my friends list :)

I was in the Rockaways for the first time, just quickly driving through :)

for all that, we now know the difference between the first and third worlds is colo(u)r vs. black-and-white lithography.

the indonesian caricaturist got it: downer looks bored, as one being banged by john howard must, and howard looks like he's going to stroke out.

I really like the Australian response to this one - and as much as I loathe Howard et al, the way that Indonesia has treated West Papua is a real crime, one that gets ignored all the time.
