OK the body clock is officially fooked. Friday night we met a couple of Aussie guys in town to get married. The national debate on queer relationship recognition is heating up, and they moved their wedding date up 3 months--bringing an Australian TV crew along for the ride. We had met Peter down in Sydney, but not his other half Theo. We were also joined by Luke and Matt, the young Aussie fellas who moved to Canada on a working holiday several months ago; they 're now based on Toronto, but the Aussie TV network paid for their flights to Vancouver so they could be interviewed as well (Luke founded Australian Marriage Equality and Peter's one of the officers).

We had a great time and didn't get home until nearly 01h00--super duper pumpkin time for us. We slept in Saturday for a bit, then ran errands, had a noice sushi lunch, a cawfee, then got organized for Peter, Theo and our mate Brent to come for roast dinner. [livejournal.com profile] querrelle cooked a lot, I cleaned a bit, and we had a great time. Then we dragged the Aussies to Numbers, which was fun--but again, home around 01h00. Then 02h00 became 03h00 (DST), and we stayed up a bit later.

We got up after 12h00, to a gorgeous sunny day. I went for a roller blade, committed adultery, came home, watched the Junos. Was supposed to meet the Aussies for a drink tonight but Luke's turned his mobile off. So I'm all alone, waiting for my husband to come home and sodomize me. Marriage is hard!

Congratulations to Peter and Theo on their impending marriage. Do let us know if you find out any more details about the TV programme, when it is on etc. I'd be keen to watch it to see how it's presented.

There's news back here in Aussieland that the federal government will take action to prevent the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) from introducing local laws allowing civil unions to take place with the same recognitions as married people have. Interesting and I still can't understand what threat we pose to heterosexual marriages. In fact I'd have thought we would have supported a little more strongly (at least initially) longer lasting relationships as there are a lot of couples out there in long term relationships that would like to have their relationship recognised (me included).

I will check out the Aust Marriage Equality web site too.. sounds interesting.

I agree. In the past I don't think any gay folks could have possibly predicted that there would be any opposition to gay marriage. It's a complete surprise. I still don't get why anyone would have any problem with it.
Maybe it is really just political opportunism after all.

I agree. It's just right wing religious minority that holds sway with the general (and generally apathic) public. You know, "we", as a generality as the west, look at emerging countries in Europe's east and middle east and wonder how church and state are so strongly integrated as we generally believe that church and state are separate. But I'm not so convinced that in the west this concept isn't taking hold again and I don't understand why. I don't see church numbers up so I don't understand why we tend to be following leaders with a strong religious fervour.

It hurts just a little bit, that the world doesn't believe that my relationship with my partner isn't worthwhile, and our love doesn't mean a thing while I have to celebrate people getting married who you know will divorce in the next 3 years. Why is that something that we should be celebrating?

I wanna go rollerblading with you but only if we listen to Xanadu and wear matching sweatbands.
I'd also like to commit adultery with you but listening to nothing and wearing your husband.
