I'm inclined to distrust them - they ranked Sydney higher than Adelaide for quality of life? Sydney has much worse traffic, pollution, cost of living and homelessness than Adelaide, whereas the only thing they have which is better is more comprehensive public transport...

Keep in mind that the survey is compiled from the perspective of a generally well-paid, limited-term expatriate professional, who is likely to be living in the city centre or a plush suburb, travelling about the city in their company car, sending their children to fee-paying school, and availing themselves of private health provision.

This survey, and the equivalent one compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit, doesn't purport to represent the daily experience of ordinary city residents.

Now *that* makes it make more sense, although I still think that Sydney will use it to crow unjustifiedly :)

I'm not sure how Honolulu scored so high. It's frighteningly expensive, there's major traffic in the city, and there's NO culture (theater, ballet, art etc). Just seems odd...

I just laugh how in Melbourne they are forever saying how this is the most livably city and it so much better than sydney, even saying how the COmmonweath games the best event ever held in australia (umm hello sydney 2000) yet it rarely ranks high than Sydney in these things

Hmm, but if I were to ever live in Australia again I'd choose Melbourne over Sydney. Sydney is fun to visit, but it always strikes me as a mile wide and an inch deep. I just enjoy the feel of Melbourne more I guess.

Just because things are so much more expensive in both Zurich and Geneva (and the much higher suicidal rates in Swiss cities) ... personally, I would pick Vancouver as number 1 if being gay is not a factor, and SF if being gay is a major factor! And if my Spanish is any better, Seville or Granada will definitely be my top picks ...

I ca never understand why Frankfurt is always ranked that high. I haven't been there too often, but besides some museums there is absolutely nothing positive I can say about it. Well, I will check it again next month.
...oh, and I am proud of course that Munich is in the top 9...

Astonishingly, Glasgow made it on to this list - ranked at 55, alongside Birmingham, Los Angeles and Tsukuba. Glasgow's got the worst health record in Europe - if poverty indicators were Olympic medals, the city could cover itself in glory.
