Travels

Years ago when I was still 'hoin' myself to da Man (I was a...*sob*...corporate travel agent), we had a great temp. She was smart, funny, and a single mum trying to make it in life. Everyone agreed we should make her permanent. Apparently being cluey was something she could muster under the imminent threat of no work: once regularized she became slothful, bristly, and was sick or late pretty much every day.

But what irked most people was how she answered the (general information) phone lines: "travels". No dear, "travel", singular. "Travels." "No dear, travel. Singular." "Travels." Finally the admin supervisor's last nerve shorted out and she tore a strip off the woman.

"You don't understand, I'm from Jamaica, we say 'travels'."

"Where are you from in Jamaica?"

"My parents are Jamaican. I learned it from them..."

"You stupid girl, I be from Jamaaaai-ca, an' never heard no one say 'travels'!"

*sulk*

She was gone in a month. But enough about her, what about me????


A couple of months ago I whinged to querrelle that I had that travel itch. Now look at what's goin' on:

No dear, Rockaway Beach. 11694. La famille. I *may* make it into the City for a day, but haven't been able to the last few trips. And if it's beach weather I'll be bronzing my bum.

But it's doable, you're on the list. Fear not. danbearnyc is top of the list, king of the hill, A-number-one.
