Near the top of any NYC trip's agenda is food. The list includes pizza, knishes, bagels, dirty water hot dogs. I always forget about egg creams though. Here's my lunch from Friday: "2 regulars and a diet Coke". Knishes were for Saturday

I had it again on Monday *burp*
This trip had more sightings of obscure Egans short of a funeral trip. My cousin Cathy was over from Ireland with her husband and 3 kids. They live in Limerick, Co. Clare. And Cathy's only given the family nose to one daughter. Here's Cathy and her husband Brendan. Great culture chasm moment: the Angelus rang and Cathy and I thought it was the ice cream man...Brendan and Aunt Eileen (Mother General Eileen, Dorothian Sisters) knew better and scorned us for our hignorance.

I saw all my siblings, including Mystery Mike--though not at the same time. I love this photo of Kath, not merely because she looks hawt: when we were kids she wouldn't go near the beach. Funny how having 7 kids to entertain will beat some flexibility into some people.

Speaking of kids, here are 3 of hers: Richie, Grace and Katie. They're all nice, but Katie is almost certainly the nicest person our family has ever produced. What a sweetheart!

On Saturday there was a BBQ on Nanny's back porch. When Mike rocked up, all were surprised...in a good way. He stayed over an hour too, like OMG WTF BBQ? He's ever so slightly taller than me, but not quite as...wide. In fact, here he is with our Da "the Bear". They both celebrated birthdays the week before on 27 June; Da 71, Mike 45. I take after Da, so I hope to be as well preserved in my senior years.

Nanny herself doesn't bother to shift out of the lounge--hey she's 99, back awf--but she loves the kids running around etc. Turns out Nanny now has 32 great-grandkids. Here's a photo of most of us at the BBQ:

Rear: Cailin, Patrick, Da, Cathy, Mike, David, Michael S, Paddy
Front: Me, Maureen, Brendan, Meaghan, Mary
Patrick, Cathy, David & Mary are siblings. Meaghan is Cathy & Brendan's. Michael S is their sister Eileen's son (therefore Patrick, David, Mary and Cathy's nephew). There's also Michael who, like Cathy, lives in Ireland. Cailin is Patrick's fiancé.
As for my brother Tommy, well his shtick is to steal my camera at some point and take a picture of himself. I know when he took the photo, but I can't for the life of me figure out how he managed to get the camera off me.

I love my family and they love me. Which is easier for all when I only pop in once or twice a year for a few days. The magic number is 5 (days) before it begins to unravel and we all regress to the unfun. This trip was 4.5 days--woo hoo!

Date: 2006-07-07 11:52 pm (UTC)Goodness that is where my family on my mother’s side came from way back in 18?? (I would have to look it up). I still have rellies there.
Your gran and my Pa would get on well as he turned 106 24th June. He is a feisty person too. He has book the restaurant for next year too!
I love reading about your family. I feel as though I am there seeing it happen and although our family’s are different I can relate to a lot of what you say.

It's interesting that you don't look as much like your family members as I had expected. You look a lot like Patrick, but otherwise...
I'm not sure why this surprised me.
