gay marriage in Ontario
Jun. 11th, 2003 01:11 pmYup, the courts ordered the province of Ontario to immediately start issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Which they did. And to retroactively any same-sex marriages conducted by churches that perform same-sex marriages. Which they also did.
And 2 guys jumped right on it and got married to one another. Today. Legally.
While I doubt I'd ever do it, I'm darned glad to have the right.
Most days I'm grateful to be Canadian. Today even more so.

I could have a partnership ceremony anyway, without my relationship being sanctioned by the state. For me, it's about celebrating my life with my partner. :)

Ooops pardon the language! I just don't see why it's ok to recognize commonlaw unions but not gay/lesbian ones!
