Mel Gibson's tumbled off the wagon, after driving it drunk. And revealed that perhaps The Passionate of the Christ might, in fact, have been somewhat anti-semitic. He sure seems to be. I empathize, to a certain extent, with anyone suffering chronic alcoholism. But the super-rich, who can afford pretty much any sort of therapy or treatment? Less so. People without a pot to piss in manage to find and maintain strong sobriety.

Feed your obsessions (like pre-Vatican II Catholicism) and get your own house in order Melbert.

Speaking of The Passion: my sister-in-law (Tree) and brother (Tom) went to see the filum together. They live on Long GuyLand, where there's lots of Catlicks and Jews, but not so many evangelicals. So apparently only one person stood up and yelled "thank you Jesus for saving the world" or some such thoughtful expression of faith. But it's apparently a brutal movie: by the end of it, everyone' shuffling very quietly out of the theatre.

Tree, who has little positive to say about her Catlick school experiences (she elected to go to a nasty, dangerous public high school to avoid more nunnery), turns to Tom and says--in her best Queens Nu Yawk axent:

Oh moy gawd! I can't bulieve he diiiiied!

LOVE her!

Indeed, it's a very brutal film. And, had it not been about Jesus, the MPAA surely would have rated it NC-17. (South Park hit this point on the head quite well in its "Passion of the Jews" episode.)

I watched it at home because I knew I'd need to pause it and take breaks... and I didn't want to pay, adding to Gibson's evil empire.

From the tmz comment section:

Mel Gibson is the bravest human being of our time! Our beautiful, progressive nation is being destroyed by the old thinkers, the founders of communism, the vindictive ones. The fact that a minor, normal incident is 'exposed' by the masters of our information system in this manner is proof. May the forces of the universe protect (what used to be) the most wonderful, progressive nation on the planet from the vindictive, racist, old thinkers, who currently control us all.

I said it then, and I'll say it again. He made a really beautiful S&M porno snuff flick.

My Mother a nice Cat'lick lady who plays the organ on Sundays and is actually a convert to the religion said of The Passion, "yeah I don't want to see that. I am not into snuff films."
*snorts*
This is why I like my Mom.

Mel Gibson is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life.

Normally, as a matter of principle, I refuse to criticise books or films I haven't read or seen, but in this case I just thought"Nope - don't need to".

The man is a dangerous fascist and I just wish he'd crashed his car and ended up in a hospital bed for the rest of his life. Ooops. Nasty thoughts.

I think I love your sis-in-law too.

I think it's safe to say that Mel's latest anti-semetic outburst was a severe career-limiting move. Next, he'll be defacing the synagogue at the corner of LaCienaga & Wilshire (Hancock Park/Beverly Hills).

Eight kids -that might be a bit crowded. I wouldn't mind a nice crowd of kids. They entertain me. Maybe I will go all Angelina and adopt some too.

Hear that? That’s the sound of me falling out of my chair, convulsing in laughter.
