Mel Gibson's tumbled off the wagon, after driving it drunk. And revealed that perhaps The Passionate of the Christ might, in fact, have been somewhat anti-semitic. He sure seems to be. I empathize, to a certain extent, with anyone suffering chronic alcoholism. But the super-rich, who can afford pretty much any sort of therapy or treatment? Less so. People without a pot to piss in manage to find and maintain strong sobriety.

Feed your obsessions (like pre-Vatican II Catholicism) and get your own house in order Melbert.

Speaking of The Passion: my sister-in-law (Tree) and brother (Tom) went to see the filum together. They live on Long GuyLand, where there's lots of Catlicks and Jews, but not so many evangelicals. So apparently only one person stood up and yelled "thank you Jesus for saving the world" or some such thoughtful expression of faith. But it's apparently a brutal movie: by the end of it, everyone' shuffling very quietly out of the theatre.

Tree, who has little positive to say about her Catlick school experiences (she elected to go to a nasty, dangerous public high school to avoid more nunnery), turns to Tom and says--in her best Queens Nu Yawk axent:

Oh moy gawd! I can't bulieve he diiiiied!

LOVE her!

Normally, as a matter of principle, I refuse to criticise books or films I haven't read or seen, but in this case I just thought"Nope - don't need to".

The man is a dangerous fascist and I just wish he'd crashed his car and ended up in a hospital bed for the rest of his life. Ooops. Nasty thoughts.
