An 05h00 alarm greeting my morning. I showered, dressed, married
querrelle, and taxied to YVR. Much as it galls me, WestJet has it all over Air Canada.: new planes, great crew, easy booking, online check-in and boarding system. Flight on time. 24 channels of live digital satellite TV in every seatback. I watched a bit of telly, but mostly I marked. In fact I marked all my students' assignments for the term.
As luck would have it, WestJet shares the same terminal as American Airlines. So I got my boarding card and was through odious US Immigration in minutes. The food options were awful but I was starving,,,so I made due with a hot dog and a Pepsi. Then I found the was an earlier flight to LGA and a slightly later one direct to JFK (JFK is much closer to the 'rents' place). They couldnt' guaranteed space on the JFK, but the LGA was leaving in 5 minutes--and I got on it. Arriving to LGA at 5pm; at my 'rents' crib at 630: for $2, courtesy of the Q33 and Q53 buses.
Nanny and Aunt Eilieen were in; Da was down at the hospital with Ma. So the ladies and I gabbed a bit. Nanny would say something, I'd reply, Nanny'd bellow "hwhath?"* I'd bellow what I'd said, she's nod, go back to reading. Da came in, gave us an updage (she's a bit better today). I did some washing up and made cuppas. Then I grabbed some pizza from 129th street, spoke to
querrelle, and then 2 hours on Skype with my sister! Poor thing, she's gutted over Ma.
I'm not. Strangely, I have a strong sense she'll fight back from this. But that's not based on anything concrete. More tomrrow.
If you smoke cigarettes, stop now. Just stop. It's hideoud deadly poison. Mass produced and hypermarketted to the masses, despite its inevitable contribution to deaths from lung cancer, heart disease and COPD/emphysema

Date: 2006-08-10 01:32 pm (UTC)What does it gall you? Do you have stock in Air Canada? :)
AC has been a big, poorly run money pit for years. They charge more than other airlines for their flights and the cost isn't reflected in the quality of the flight. Give me a cheap SkyService flight any day.
The food options were awful but I was starving,,,so I made due with a hot dog and a Pepsi - Total price = $25

Not to mention that it's expensive, makes you smell like ass, and just plain gross. I can never understand the attraction...
Good luck for your moms!

Date: 2006-08-10 03:31 pm (UTC)AC is actually one of the few airlines making a profit now - so much so that Robert Milton has been approached by other airlines to see if he might help turn them around. Also, they're the only airline that services much of the country - if i want to visit my parents in Northern Ontario, i have no other option but AC. AC must also abide by certain federal regulations that don't apply to other airlines and that add to their operating costs. And their prices are reasonably competitive. I've been comparing costs to fly from Montreal to the UK over xmas and right now, AC has the best prices by far.
