Things that irk, by Anne Elk. Ahem!

1. washing the eating bit but not the holding bit of cutlery and utensils

2. Prefacing something obnoxious with "I know I should say anything but..." So shut the fook up

3. Shrill stage whispering in quiet environments

4. Yelling into your mobile

5. Wet, gooey paper towel dispensers--and while I'm at it, those stoopid hand blow dryers

6. Dr. Phil

7. People who talk about the Democratic Party like it's progressive, or left leaning. It's a centre-right party people. Jaysus

8. Skim milk, but especially in tea

9. Serving hot tea with a cup of hot water and the bag next to it on the saucer. Boiling water over the bag fer Chrissakes

10. Deontological justification for public policy

These are things, things which irk me. Ahem!

Hee. (he wears a bit too much makeup. The man isn't good at being subtle)

Skim milk comes from the devil's teat.

Have to agree (on a somewhat obsessive level) with number 1.

Dr. Phil, yes he is a prick.

Skimmed milk is grand, it's just ordinary milk diluted with water anyway. Perfect place to put it: In tea that also has a lot of water in it. ;-)

Deontological?

And... who is Anne Elk?

See, this is a pet hate for me too. For me, tea, is leaves... in a pot, with a strainer. Its all the things that go with it. Tea is an experience where coffee is just a drink.

A tea bag, not even in the hot water is just fucking lazy. What are you actually paying for? 1 sec effort and a 10cent bag???

I was recently told that before pouring water onto the tea bag (and this is the same rule for plunger coffee apparently) that you should let the boiled water stand for a minute so not to burn the tea/coffee, not sure i believe that.

But yeah hate the tea bag to the side.

I heard somewhere recently that coffee is best made with water just under boiling point - I mean real coffee, not instant. But I've never heard thatabout tea.

There was a guy on TV explaining how to make the best coffee who said that and went on to say the same for tea leaves, as I said not sure I believe him about the tea leaves

4. Yelling into your mobile

*haha*
Yeah, the whole point of a mobile phone is that you can talk to someone a long way away without having to shout.

Yep. Tea requires boiling water - if it's been off the boil for a few seconds, I'll hit the 'on' switch on the kettle again before pouring it.

Coffee shouldn't be made with boiling water, though: approx 70°C is apparently the temp that trained baristas go for.

hey

this is a very short list. I'll agree that all of the above are jerky, but not all of them irk me actively.
