I may say this because I'm a native speaker but she acts bad regarding her accent. She uses her posh madrileño when she should speak like working class with manchego influences.

The woman who plays her sister gets exactly the accent, even Carmen Maura can fake it. Penélope does not. I couldn't stand her in the film!

But it's just my opinion and I think the film was brilliant. It's going to represent Spain for the Oscars

I couldn't stand her either...until Volver. Still not a huge fan, but impressed with her work here.

But mostly I think she looks like a pelican....
