jawnbcBack in 1999, the two women featured here were both popular in their home countries, but not much beyond them. Four years later, as Fate would have it, both represented their homelands at the Eurovision in Riga Latvia.
Mando sang for Greece and didn't fare very well: she finished 17th with only 25 points with "Never let you go". Sertab Erener won the Contest for Turkey with "Every way that I can". To open the 2004 Contest in Istanbul, Sertab sang a medley of "Every way that I can" and "Leave" the English version of "Ask/Fos". For many whose only knowledge of Sertab was her winning song, her performance of "Leave" was stunning...in more ways than one. Here's the clip of "Leave" on its own:
Live, in the venue, it sent shivers down your spine. And having attended 3 dress rehearsals as well, she hits that note every single feicin' time.
